The Gyro range of scooters are ubiquitous in Japan. They are used as delivery bikes for everything from small liquor stores to cosmetics companies and as working bikes for people who need to carry a lot of equipment in order to ply their craft. The tilting mechanism allows the bike to navigate corners at speed while keeping the rear rack flat. The fact that they are so widely used is a testament to their robustness and performance but it does have the drawback that many of them carry the scars of a lifetime of heavy use.
They’d be absolutely bang on for so many businesses here that it is a total mystery why Honda don’t bring them in themselves. However, this creates another benefit for the lucky few who can find them. Whether you are looking for a workhorse, something to promote your business or simply a machine that is fun to ride and somewhat unusual, you could do much worse than look at a Gyro. Apart from anything else, there’s no need to faff around with a kick stand. Pull up outside the dentist, pop on the handbrake and up you go!
What we have here is a 1993 model, in black and sand with a custom box made by our team in Japan. In addition to the box they have added an aluminium floor pan and fat, cast wheels at the rear. The black and sand motif goes from the design on the front plastic to the seat and the huge log cabin at the back gives it a unique appearance. Whether for work or leisure, this trike is going to give someone a whole lot of fun.
Much more than a toy, but just as fun, the Gyro X is a cute but sturdy workhorse with a swagger. Come down the mill and take a look.
